The Master at Work
One of John’s favourite places - New Orleans, 2004:
“New Year's Eve is often a let down. Then, every once in a while you have one of those "nights-to-remember" as I did, thanks to John. Of course, how can you go wrong when you spend New Year's in New Orleans? John, Ingrid, Emma and I drove there from Orlando and had a great week dining and seeing the sights in the French Quarter and the Garden District, but the highlight was New Year’s Eve. We booked a table at the Palm Court Jazz Cafe for the evening, about a ten block walk from the hotel Monteleone.  The jazz was hot, the food was classic and John kept us entertained all night. After Auld Lang Syne we felt our way back to the hotel teetering through fog so thick you couldn't see the other side of the street. John took it upon himself to befriend every street performer, gendarme and fellow inebriant along the way. And he picked up the tab for the whole shebang, by the way. Happy 70th birthday, to the most generous man I know. Thank you John!”
